Yes, I know I'm boring y'all to tears, but this is turning into a spectacular phenomenon. Since passing the ABC islands earlier this afternoon, Felix has intensified from a category 2 hurricane to a category 4. It'll easily become a category 5, bearing in mind its maximum sustained windspeed has shot up from 80 knots (90 mph) to 120 knots (135 mph) over the past 7 hours or so. The forecast peaks Felix at 135 knots, and even the NHC says that may be a conservative estimate. For the moment, it would appear that the hurricane will approach northeastern Honduras early on Tuesday local time, graze that country's northern coast, and make landfall in Belize. The forecast beyond that is very uncertain. More tomorrow. Meanwhile, this was the subject of this post 1 hour ago.
