Typhoon Krosa is now appearing on the Taiwanese radar, and its outliers are now sweeping the island nation. The winds have not picked up to any great extent, but then, the storm is still a few hundred miles away. It is expected to pass over Taiwan between 1200 and 2400 GMT tomorrow, October 6th. Winds will be near 120 knots / 135 mph at landfall, and will decrease to 105 knots / 120 mph during the crossing of the island. Land tends to cause weakening of tropical cyclones, which depend on warm water for their survival.
Krosa is currently a category 5 typhoon. It is already bringing swells of 20 feet / 6 metres to the Taiwanese coast, which will rise to 39 feet / 12 metres by the time the storm reaches the coast. It is currently nighttime (midnight local time) over there. At first light, in about 7 hours time, the webcams should start to show some of its effects. I'll try to post links later this evening.
