Third anniversary

Today, it is 3 years ago since I began this journal, Northern Trip. I can still picture myself in the lobby of the Kyleakin Youth Hostel in Skye, some 75 miles south of Stornoway, tapping away at my first diary entry for 8 October 2004. If you go to the first entry in Northern Trip, you'll find it starts on November 17th, 2004. The journal that covers the dates beforehand, Northern Trip-The Start, commences at August 11th. I have previously copied the diary entries between October 8th and November 16th over to that journal.

In April 2005, I began taking pictures, a hobby which has mushroomed on a colossal scale. Total tally of photographs is now approaching 10,500. The copying of diary entries (which I still hand write) has given way to general blogging on the scale that you're now used to from me.

My involvement with J-land started in November 2005, when I came across the VIVI awards. I read several of the journals that were nominated - that was the positive side of the VIVIs. The negative side became clearer last year, and I'm relieved they are not being held in 2007. It was a pity that the addition of ads drove several people out of J-land.

Anyway, I've found J-land to be a unique and singular experience, and wish it, and all of its contributors, well in times to come.

  3. Congrats on your anniversary.   I'm glad you stayed around.  I miss some of the old journals, but time marches on.  That's a lot of photos you have, but I can understand, as I have collected a lot as we travel about.  Have a happy day. Dawn

  16. I'm sorry I missed this entry when it was first made, but as you have probably guessed I am catching up with all of your October entries that I missed.
Congratulations on your third anniversary!  I am so glad you did tap out that entry on October 8, 2004, and that you have continued tapping them out.  I think you have one of the best journals in J-land and enjoy the diverse topics of your entries as well your pictures.  So (raising my glass of ice tea) here's to you and Northern Trip, and to more years of tapping away! :)
