No dignity in dying

Such was the fate of a woman of 50 in the northern English town of Hartlepool. Upon returning to her home, she collapsed, and lay dying on her doorstep. Rather than sending for help, a man of 27 decided to tend to her with his own methods. After emptying a bucket of cold water over her, he proceeded to empty his bladder over her as well as a canister of shaving foam. He shouted "this is YouTube material" as a crowd of onlookers looked on, laughed, and recorded his actions on a mobile phone. Twenty minutes into the attack, someone finally had the bright idea to call 999. Too late for the unfortunate victim, who was declared dead on arrival in hospital.

Although the cause of death was quoted as pancreatic failure, a court in the county of Teesside told the culprit he had outraged public decency through his actions and sentenced him to 3 years in prison. The accused was previously referred to a higher court, in order that a longer prison sentence could be handed down. Relatives of the deceased declared that those who stood by and laughed, without taking any action, were just as guilty as the man sent to jail. He had consumed alcohol and cannibis prior to the attack.

I could say a lot. Read the report on the BBC website, which gives some more details. Anyone who hears about this story will give the same reaction. Utter revulsion.

  1. Gasp-that is a shamefull display of inhumanity...I agree the onlookers should be in just as much trouble as the a-s-o-e

  2. That helpless woman, dying in such a manner.  You're right; I'm repulsed.  He could have called 999 himself, yet this?  And, I agree, the others who chimed in with cheers and failed to call for help nor stop this man are also guilty.  Really a shame.......  I feel for that woman.

  3. I worry about this world is coming to when a life matters nothing.  Cannabis or not...this man was the lowest of the low and so were the watchers!  May they rot in hell!  That poor woman left this earth aware of these onlookers and their inhumanity!  I can't bear to think about it anymore as I am incensed by their behaviour.  I hope he gets everything he deserves as well as a maximum jail sentence.

  7. Idiots must attract idiots.  That is one of the most disgusting things.  It's too bad they can't show that she might have survived if help had come along right away and then charge him with something that would give him more than three years.  What a sicko.  Maybe he'll receive some of his own "humor" while locked up.  This kind of stupidity and ignorance upsets me no end.  Linda

  11. Disgusting that someone could even contemplate such an action, and for those that stood by and watched then may they remember their own actions for as long as they live and feel the pain that the womans family feel each day they have been without her.

  16. Sometimes I will hear of a certain person/persons compromising their integrity, but some have NO integrity or compassion at all.
