This man used to be a star in American Football, until he was convicted for taking part in an illegal dog-fighting ring in the United States. He has admitted to killing 8 dogs, who were seen as under-performers. Vick has been sentenced to 23 months in jail, and will lose millions of dollars after his indefinite suspension from the sport. He had signed a 10-year contract with an Atlanta club, who are now seeking to recover large sums of money already paid to Vick.
He himself has admitted a gross error of judgment, and has already paid nearly a million dollars into an animal charity. Vick has apologised to friends and family, but it was put to him he should also say sorry to the millions of youngsters who had looked up to him as a role model. There is an extensive report on this BBC webpage, which contains disturbing descriptions of animal cruelty.

I agree with Yasmin.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the two comments before me. Helen
ReplyDeleteThe only thing this disgusting excuse for a human being is sorry for is that he was caught! He is a vile person ~ 23 months is nothing.

I agree with comments #1 & #4.

It is local news here so we see and hear something about it almost daily on the evening news on television. A person who would do that to a dog would also hurt a human being studies have shown. I do not think he should be 'counseled' and let go after the horrible atrocities I have seen that he's done, including slamming a dog on a mat until it dies, but I think he should be put away in prison with others of like mentality and taken off the streets for good. Supposed role model or not, he has a criminal mentality. 23 months in jail will only make a bigger celebrity/hero out of him. He killed way more than eight dogs. He's only confessed to that many.

Animals wouldn't do what he did to those dogs. He had reasoning on his side and still went ahead and did what he did. I agree that 23 months was not long enough.

I saw that in my mornings paper but hadn't read the complete story yet. At least they are holding him accountable. I figured being the "over paid prima dona" that he is...he'd get off with a slap on the hand. Linda in WA
ReplyDeleteHis sentence was not long enough. Dog-fighting is an ever growing menace and the law needs to make an example of people like him to deter others. As for saying sorry, that is too late for the dogs he killed and those he allowed to be so injured they would have been destroyed. Rehoming would have been impossible anyway.
ReplyDeleteLots of our American friends have been following this story and commenting on it Iam pleased he has been sentanced(sorry its not for longer ) ...love Jan xx
ReplyDeleteI can only echo the comments of those before me as I agree with each and every one....
ReplyDeleteThey'll be no place in heaven for one who abuses Gods creatures....
What Vick did is totally disgusting and he should be punished a lot harsher then he has been. Don't kid yourself thinking when he is done with his time he won't be back on the field. There is an owner, or two, that will want him on their team. Trust me. Sad but true.
ReplyDelete23 months. I'm guessing that'll be a year of active time served and then probation. Ugh....disgusting. He's lucky I wasn't the one doing the sentencing.

I wish it was a longer sentence...
ReplyDeletebe well,
