We've lost the sun, but there are still bright patches in amongst the clouds. A fresh breeze has sprung up, and the temperature has risen to 9C. Not as cold as yesterday in other words, when it didn't get much above 2C all day.
Subtropical storm Olga is dumping rain on the Atlantic Ocean north of Puerto Rico, and will shortly make landfall in the eastern Dominican Republic. The system will dump 2 to 6 inches of rain there, with the possibility of landslides. The area is still trying to recover from the disastrous rains of Hurricane Noel back in November. Olga will probably fall to pieces on passing over Hispaniola.
It is suggested that the antibiotic doxycycline could slow the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS). The research which concluded these findings was however on a very small scale, and did not compare the rate of progression of MS to that of patients not on the antibiotic. Doxycycline carries side-effects, and the over-use of antibiotics could worsen the development of resistance against bacteria. More research is needed.

I have a lovely young friend who has this disabling disease. For a moment there I thought there was a lifeline for her as she is only thirty two and has it quite bad already.
ReplyDeleteIt must be lookedintot for the reasons why this antibiotic Doxyclyine works and what triggers it without loosing the benefits of the bacterial sledgehammer it uses on infections. Oh for a cure for this hated disease!!

I'm now on a 90 day course of 20mg doxycycline after some dental work. I hate this stuff. Too many rules! "take on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating. Don't lay down for 30 minutes after taking this medicine"....it goes on and on. And then there's the other "lovely" side female side effects. I'm not sure I'm going to make it for 90 days !! Linda
