The first tropical cyclone in the South Pacific, Daman, has intensified explosively overnight, and is now a category 3 hurricane, with winds in excess of 105 knots, that's about 125 mph. The cyclone is expected to make landfall at around dawn local time (6 am) on the eastern end of Vanua Levu, the second largest island in Fiji.
For reference, Fiji lies east of New Zealand, just west of the dateline.

There were several crew members on that last cruise to Alaska from Fiji. They are such warm & loving people. I hope they will be ok and have plenty of warning about this on coming storm. Linda in WA
