Monday notes

Brilliantly sunny morning - now you weren't expecting me to open with that sentence, were you? Very cold though (by our standards) with current temperature at +1C (34F) and an overnight low of -1C (30F). Bear in mind that we're in the Gulf Stream, and have a temperate climate with relatively modest swings in temperature. Maximum temp today will not exceed 5C / 41F.

Forgot to mention in yesterday's piece about Robert Mugabe (which actually was the reason I was posting it, d'oh!) that the Archbishop of York cut up his dog-collar on live BBC TV yesterday morning, saying he would not wear it again until Mr Mugabe had left office in Zimbabwe.

Here in the UK, plans are afoot to build a 7000 turbine windfarm offshore. I'm all for that. As long as it's offshore, and not (like the plans are here) on-shore. The turbines are an eye-sore, noisy and detrimental to wildlife.

I'm hoping that the dog collar you refer to is the white priest's collar that clergy wear.

  3. I admire the Archbishop of York for his stance on the many things that are going wrong in society these days.  He stands up and allows himself to be counted and re-sets the moral high ground which somehow is disappearing into apathy with many people nowadays.
It still beggars belief that Mugabe is still looked upon highly by his fellow African Statesmen.  Even though he has brought his country to the ground where the majority of them are starving and have no means of providing for themselves.  His cohorts helping him run his maniacal governance of his country meanwhile live in the lap of luxury,  One day...one day..they will get their 'come-uppance'.
I pray for his people, and their deliverance from his evil, regularly.  All this because he wanted to get rid of collonialism?  The man is an ignorant buffooon parading on the world stage whilst his people die because of his brutal hedonistic ways.  He is worse than Idi Amin who got rid of all the Asian business men who were the mainstay of his country, Uganda.
I get quite irate when I see Mugabe parading on the worlds stage. iI somehow feels how it must have been like to watch Nero fiddling whilst Rome burned.   Why are we so powerless to help these poor Zimbabweans?
Oh!  Guido....I can get so wound up over this man....as you can tell.

  4. Guido!!!  You did indeed surprise me with your sunny day!!  I believe we are having your weather here as of late.  Seems it has rained or snow showered every day since Thursday and due to continue until this Thursday!  Thank you for the farenheit reading too.

  5. I can not comment on Mugabe because i know very little on the subject. I do applaude the Archbishop on his stance for whats right we just need heads of state to stand up with him what you betting that does not happen. I once saw a wind turbine just of the east coast line it was plain to see from the road to me it looked weird seeing just one lone one. I think somebody is seeing sense putting 7ooo out to sea. Its far better than seeing turbines blight our beautiful countryside.Cold and sunny here in County Durham. I hope the rest of your day is good
    love and hugs

  6. Would an offshore turbine not be harmful to wildlife?

Brilliantly sunny -- great!  Looking forward to that here, also.  And, those temperatures are not nearly as cold as I would have anticipated for your location.  So, see, I'm learning from you!

  7. Brilliantly sunny morning here too.  My thermometer shows 32 degrees but my Weather Pixie says 36 degrees.  So I guess it's somewhere in between.  A turbine sticking out of the water...that would be interesting. Linda in Washington state
