The Southern Hemisphere hurricane season is still in full flow - tropical cyclone Ophelia has just formed off the Kimberley coast in Western Australia, and another system is brewing northeast of La Reunion. However, the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific hurricane seasons kick off on 1 June and 15 May respectively, not all that far away.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami hold a hurricane awareness week between May 25 and 31 this year. It is important however, if you are in an area likely to be impacted by hurricanes, to start making preparations NOW.
Detailed advice can be found on the NHC website, and it's imperative that you are prepared by May. Also, make sure friends or family are prepared.
I have learned, in two years of hurricane monitoring, that information is essential, and it is accurate and up to date information that is sometimes difficult to come by. Make a note of the NHC website, which will update on any system every 6 hours. Read up, in order that you understand their terminology.

YOUR LIFE COULD DEPEND ON IT

Living here in Central Florida, this is something we're always aware of! Thanks for the reminder. Hurricane season will be here before we know it -- and before we're ready! I hope you're having a great weekend. Thanks for your kind words about my grandson. He is home now and doing well. Blessings, Linda
