Cancer awareness

Kelly (Kim's sister) is participating in a fundraising activity, aimed at promoting Breast Cancer awareness. She has already achieved a laudable total, but more is needed to prevent more people dying of the disease.

In nine days from now, between March 10th and 16th, the focus will be on Prostate Cancer awareness. Cancer in men is a difficult subject, as men generally find it very hard to talk about illness, let alone about illnesses around their masculinity.

The prostate straddles the urethra (through which we urinate). It is normal for this gland, involved in the ejaculation of sperm, to swell up in later life. This can lead to problems passing urine. Prostate cancer means that cancerous cells have formed in the gland. These can spread to other organs.

There is a campaign, called Real Men Do, who aims to raise awareness of this cancer, what signs and symptoms to look out for. And not to be hesitant to see a doctor about it.

Each year, 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Every hour a man dies of prostate cancer.

If you're a Real Man, don't become another statistic.

  1. My husband Mark will be going for his first ever Prostate exam in 2 weeks. He's a bit nervous. I think it's probably all that you said above at how they don't like to talk about it.

Thank you and others who send out these wonderful reminders to all of us Ü. We appreciate you.

    HUGS~Donna

  4. I give money for cancer monthly and feel this is a great way to help as it is money that can be counted on on a regular basis for research.

  5. Sadly, Doug won't even let me mention the word let alone see a doctor for an exam.  I would love to point him to the Real Men Do but I know he won't, so there isn't any point.  After having been through cancer with my mom ~ we support our local Cancer Center all through the year.  Mother is very generous and has become one of their larger supporters...I am proud of her for this.
