Wednesday 6 February

Nice sunny morning, aye, with some showers to spice things up. Proceedings will definitely get spicy later today, when we can expect yet another force 8 or 9 gale. For the moment, it's quiet, but not for long.

I was warned by a contact in eastern Texas that they were expecting tornadoes last night. Tornadoes did occur, but further east and north. A nest of twisters rampaged across Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. There was extensive damage, and a natural gas pumping station in Tennessee was engulfed in an intense fire, after a tornado damaged it. Nearby houses also caught light, leaving an unknown number of people dead.

Here in Scotland, the First Minister, Alex Salmond, has threatened to resign if his first budget is not approved by the Scottish Parliament in a key vote tonight. Indications are though that sufficient support can be found to push matters through. Mr Salmond's Scottish National Party have a minority (by 1) in parliament and rely on other party's support to push through legislation.

  1. Last I heard there were 23 dead from the tornado. Maybe more now.
    Stay safe, Guido.

  3. More and more I realise how lucky we are to live where we do.  Tornados are horrifying and I would hate to be caught up in one such as these poor folks have.
    Poor souls!
I thought there would be a tug of war over implementing legislation issues because of his minority of 1.
Its a good thing too to my mind.

  4. Those storms that hit Texas are heading our way this afternoon.  We are under "slight risk" for these severe storms.  I was in one tornado and that was enough for me.  Enjoy your day Guido.

  5. We are experiencing those same storms here in North Georgia now. They are not too bad now, but we are keeping a close eye on the alerts. Stay safe.... Phyllis

  6. We are getting lots of noisy storms here and lights go off and on.  Little Katie gets scared and then mad she cannot continue to play her Walt Disney videos on her vcr.  That child is spoiled rotten.  I wish Dirk was home though.  We are right in tornado area though no alerts as of yet.  The damage that occurred last night wasn't near either but was tragic.

  8. The weather has been strange all over this year. Our west coast was hit hard a few weeks ago and now the lower southern section...that front is supposed to drop down to us but they are saying that it will loose some of it's punch before it arrives in Florida...I hope so. Be well, Sandi
