Friday notes

After an atrocious night, with winds up to 70 mph, things have calmed down a little. Temperatures are down to +2C, and there is some wet snow lying on the ground. Conditions in the Highlands are atrocious, with snow drifting on galeforce northerly winds.
All crew and passengers were saved from the MV Riverdance, which is currently aground on a beach at Fleetwood in Lancashire, England. The same was achieved when a trawler ran aground at St Kilda overnight. Helicopter crews from Stornoway plucked them from their precarious position under the towering cliffs of the main island of Hiort. St Kilda lies 45 miles west of Benbecula, 75 miles southwest of Lewis.

The bad weather is moving south, into northern England.

There is a BBC report into the story of 24 hour electricity on the Isle of Eigg.

  1. I'm so glad to hear everyone is safe.
Congratulations to Eigg on finally getting their electricity.  We don't know how lucky we are to have everything on tap so to speak.!!!

  5. Now for Stornoway to be self sufficient the same as Eigg.   Now that would be wonderful!   Yes?   A daydream though.
Glad the weather has calmed down in your neck of the woods.  It must have been so noisy and sleep depriving.
Glad all were rescued froo the stricken ships.

  6. I happy to hear all the passengers and crew are safely off the Riverdance but how sad to see that beautiful ship grounded.  Hope your weather calms down to reasonable conditions. Our Interstate 90 pass is still closed at 10am Friday morning and the snow continues to fall up there.  The ski resorts and restaurants on the pass are closed of course and are suffering financially. Keep warm and dry...Linda in WA
