After two ships ran aground, one at Fleetwood and one at St Kilda, another vessel was caught in force 10 winds off Cornwall. Several crew members were injured, and the captain is feared to have sustained a spinal injury. A helicopter is currently trying to airlift him off.
Meanwhile in northern England, 150 motorists are stranded on the A66 road between Scotch Corner and Penrith. This is a notorious stretch of road in wintertime, and it did not come as a surprise (to me) that people got stuck in snow drifts. Efforts are being made to rescue all, and they are being transferred to a village hall at Bowes, 30 miles west of Scotch Corner.
Here in Stornoway, a heavy snow shower left everything more or less white. Temperatures are currently below zero (-1C) and the weather radar shows a rash of showers across northern parts of Scotland. I'll post my 50-odd pictures of the winter wonderland later.
