A water buffalo died in southern Cumbria, after a car crashed into it. Two other vehicles collided when they swerved to avoid the scene. The buffalo, known locally as William Shakespeare, had a record for escapism from his enclosure, which on this occasion cost him his life. The driver of the car that hit him had to be cut free from the wreckage of his Fiat Punto.
